I hate the vents at our place. Who knows how Luke does it, but he finds things that will fit through the slots of our vent. Isabella might have given him the idea. StarWars magnets, Othello Game pieces, Firetruck ladders, Crayola Twistables, scrap paper, twisty ties...poof they're gone. He thinks it's the greatest fun ever. He could do it for hours.
Where is mom while he is blissfully occupied? Watching. In a sort of stupor. I see he has my wallet. I see he's unzipped it. I see him rifling through my cards. I see him heading toward the vent. But it's like I'm swimming through syrup and I can't stop him from magicking away my credit card, my library card, my Barnes and Noble gift card (btw Thanks JCTJCK), my Safeway card. Then my synapse start firing again. I yell, No!, quick and sharp. Luke startles, and there goes our Blue Cross card.
The tools for a job like this are bamboo skewers. Depending on the size and weight of the lost item you need three of five of them. Oh and don't forget the long thin tweezers. It could take a few hours. Only I'm out of skewers. How is this possible!!! Since Luke is still a baby and really too adorable to do anything with but love... I'm really mad at the vent.

Yesterday, or the day before, I ran out of Bamboo Skewers
Thank You Bret
Willy's friend from Work gave Luke these two heavy duty trucks. They're a hit. Thank you.

Happy Valentines Day
It seems wrong to waste money on a holiday like Valentines. Don't misunderstand me, I'm all for chocolates and flowers and candlelight and Casablanca and being alone with Willy. But I would prefer not or consumerize my romance or limit my gift getting to one day a year. I just contradicted myself, right? Well I do like that Willy buys me flowers and chocolates all year long, spontaneously because he loves me! In return he gets dinner and... the oth
er stuff frequently.
That said it wouldn't be a holiday if Willy didn't sift through all the cards at Hallmark for the one card that says: I love you more today than I loved you yesterday. Over the last six years I've grown accustomed these tributes. I expect them. They are my due. I wake up early and race to the kitchen table and with itchy fingers I reach for my card.
Last year Willy was really busy and stressed out. In other words he forgot. This year there was no card on the table again. There's one word for that kind of lip quivering sadness: Bereft. When I told Willy how I felt he grinned. I didn't notice through my tears. Otherwise I would have punched him. Lightly, I have it on good authority violence doesn't solve anything.
Minutes later, I found my card, and one for each of our children, on our unmade bed. To which I squealed:
No, I love you more today than I loved you yesterday.
And then followed it up, in an age appropriate voice, with:
Ah, Hon'-Next year could you make the bed too?

My Two Cents About the Weather
When I took this picture at 7am that building was shrouded.
Supper
I don't know, what do you want to do?
We, the kids and I, have not been outside in over a month. I can blame the weather for the last two weeks. And then the kids were sick for the two weeks B.T.S (before the storms) ... and before that when it was a crime to stay inside I was on a reading binge. Shame on Mommy.
After it snowed the first time, I was reluctant to go outside. I'm pretty much a wimp*. Luke and me, we're friends when it comes to inclement weather. Of course the snow is taller than him. I just think it's cold- which is practically no excuse for a Canadian right? Ha. Ha. Let me just tell you, that joke is not funny anymore. Last Monday (Feb 8) Willy told me it was going to snow AGAIN so I bundled the kids up and we went and stood outside in the cold for 25minutes.
*actually I don't really enjoy holding a crying baby outside in the snow; to be fair, though, Luke only cries if he can't see anything.
